Define sustainable:

  • the ability to be sustained, supported, upheld, or confirmed

Identify 5 critical elements of a relevant mentoring arrangement:

  • Corporate Support
  • Specific and Measurable Outcomes
  • Training
  • Determining participants (not all will be good mentors)
  • Mentee driven partnerships
  • Well defined plan (structure)

List ways to sustain the 5 important elements of a mentoring arrangement:

  • Early involvement of corporate executives
  • Corporate executives are champions of program
  • Aligned with a business problem (i.e. high turnover rates)
  • Training - driven by organizational need (full course, workshop, on line)
  • Committee involvement
  • Selection based on fit for the program
  • Frequent touch points to ensure responsibilities are being addressed (mentees are driving the partnership)
  • Program is customized to the organization
  • Mentoring is customized to the person
