Notes
Define commitment:
- the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc.
- an engagement or obligation that restricts freedom of action
Identify the characteristics of commitment:
- Controversial
- Loyal
- Dreamers
- Tough
- Happy
Discuss the contribution of commitment by the mentee:
- Mentee needs to initiate asking questions
- Honor their commitment to the arrangement
- Expect support - not miracles
- Communicate clearly
- Be Teachable
Discuss the contribution of commitment by the mentor:
- You can measure the commitment of a mentor by the tough questions they ask,
- Their intent to get you to see things that you are not otherwise seeing,
- To get you ‘unstuck.’
- If a Mentor is always saying great things and making you feel really good all the time, perhaps he or she is being a ‘cheering friend,’ but not a ‘caring mentor.’
